Some of the things that we learned as we were growing up in a house full of girls were how to stop a run in a pair of panty hose, how to keep our hair back using three bobby pins, and how to remove lipstick from clothes. My parents had us in private school and with the uniforms we wore we also had to wear a white blouse.
This made it difficult as we got older and started to wear makeup. No matter how careful we were we always had to remove lipstick from clothes. It seemed like my lips would touch the collar of my blouse every time I took it off.
There were several home remedies you could try to remove lipstick from clothes and of course we tried most of them. When I had to remove lipstick from clothes I would charge extra when I did the laundry. They paid me happily so they did not have to deal with it. Rubbing alcohol and dabbing at it lightly to remove lipstick from clothes before putting them into the washing machine.
If I caught it early enough this would work for me and then I could wash my blouse and it would not stain. Another trick was using petroleum jelly and then easily massaging the area, this would also remove lipstick from clothes and then if the petroleum jelly left a stain you could use baking soda to remove that stain. Sometimes when I had to remove lipstick from clothes it felt like you were playing a catch 22 game of what would take care of what stain first.
Another trick was hair spray; it is not just used for ink stains. If you need to remove lipstick from clothes then spray a bit of hairspray on the spot and blot it with a damp cloth. Then you can repeat the process until the stain is lifted and launder your blouse or piece of clothing as usual. I think we just got use to having to remove lipstick from clothes and we never really got mad about it. Hairspray was something we always seemed to have plenty of in the car too with all the girls in the family.
Then of course there is always the standard and that is to use makeup remover to remove lipstick from clothes you can dab a bit of the makeup remover directly onto the fabric and rub it a bit and the stain should lift right off and then you can launder as usual. Sometimes you just have to let things go and this one was one we just dealt with in life.
